ACL Manager 2.5.0 releasedI am pleased to announce the availability ACL Manager 2.5.0. This release contains support for the Joomla! Menu ACL and the Joomla! Update System will be used for future updates.

ACL Manager 2.5.0 is fully compatible with the latest Joomla! 3.6 version and PHP 7. Subscribers of ACL Manager with an active subscription can download this new version in the Member Area.

Joomla! Menu ACL

With the release of Joomla! 3.6 a new ACL feature was introduced to Joomla! that allows you to set permissions for each menu. ACL Manager 2.5.0 is now supporting this feature, so you can easily give or block certain user groups access to a specific menu, and therefore also all menu items of that menu.

For example, if you have a multilingual website you can allow a (language) user group access to manage only the menu of the language they manage on the website.

Joomla! Update System

Until ACL Manager 2.4.7 you could update ACL Manager via the built in Live Updater provided by Akeeba. In preparations for the upcoming release of ACL Manager 3 and because of the new Joomla! Update System requirement of the Joomla Extensions Directory the update system is replaced by the Joomla! Update System.

ACL Manager will use the Joomla! Update System for future releasesACL Manager will use the Joomla! Update System for future releases.

Any update after ACL Manager 2.5.0 (like ACL Manager 2.5.1 or ACL Manager 3.0.0) will become visible in the Joomla! Update System once available. To validate your ACL Manager subscription your Download ID is still needed and can be set in the ACL Manager Options. The Download ID keys did not change, so you can leave the key if already set in the ACL Manager Options.

ACL Manager 3

Unfortunately ACL Manager 3 has not been released yet. This has been delayed because I got married and moved last year, which was very exciting. But the focus on ACL Manager 3 is fully back now and this release is a preparation for the next major ACL Manager version!

How to update ACL Manager?

If you have an active subscription you can easily update ACL Manager via the built in live-update feature. To use this feature you need to set your "Download ID" in the ACL Manager component options. You can find your personal Download ID in the member area. You can also download ACL Manager in the Member Area and install the package via the Joomla! installer. It is not required to uninstall your existing version of ACL Manager first.
